The sala pavilion above Patong Bay at Baan Yin Dee
Chapter One · The house on the hill

Since 2000

The house of welcome.

บ้านยินดี — Thai for a warm welcome home. Twenty-six years above Patong, where the architecture and the headland made the decision together.

The hillside

Fifteen minutes above the beach, a world away from the noise.

Baan Yin Dee was built on a single architectural idea: that the best part of Patong is the bit you can only see from above. Not the bar street. Not the ferry pier. The headland — the long curve of the north headland, the Andaman catching the sunset, the sky that takes an hour to change colour.

Every room in the property faces either the four-tier infinity pool or the open bay. There is no back-of-house room. There is no parking-lot view. The architect was specific about this. It took three years to build the 21 keys because each one had to line up with a sightline that the hill gave for free.

Twenty-six years later, the proportions still hold. The teak lattice on the headboards is from the same mill. The four-tier pool still cascades at the same tempo. Max, the head chef, has been cooking at the sala for twenty-four of those years. The only thing that really changes here is the light.

Twenty-six years

Six rooms to twenty-one. Two decades on the hill.

2000

The first teak beam

Baan Yin Dee opens on the Patong headland with six rooms and a cascading pool. The property sits above the Patong road, above the noise — a deliberate choice.

2004

Twenty-one keys

Three buildings added over four years, bringing the count to 21 rooms. The four-tier pool gets its signature shape. Every room still faces either the pool or the bay.

2010

Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice

After a decade, BYD earns its first Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice for Patong resorts — the first of many.

2016

Luxury Travel Guide Asia

Recognised in the Luxury Travel Guide Asia & Australasia. The hillside location and the four-tier pool become the signature images of the property.

2018

RICE opens

The sala pavilion is rebuilt as a restaurant. Max, now head chef, writes the Southern Thai menu that becomes the signature. Sixty seats, sunset included.

2022

Floating breakfast launches

A rattan tray on the top tier of the pool, tropical fruit and pastries floated out to the water. The single most-photographed ritual on the property.

2024

Pool deck and spa refurbished

Teak decking relaid, loungers re-upholstered, spa pavilion expanded. The Thai Boran massage programme adds oil and aromatherapy treatments.

2026

World Luxury Awards

Named Boutique Resort of the Year for Southern Thailand at the World Luxury Hotel Awards. Twenty-six years on the hill — still 21 keys, still teak, still quiet.
