Choose Patong if
You want the most restaurants, shopping, nightlife and day-trip pickups. The trick is to stay near the action rather than in it. That is the reason we are on the hill: it is quiet at night, with the town a short ride away. Read the hill and the shuttle.
Choose Karon if
You want a long, uncrowded beach for walking and swimming and do not need nightlife.
Choose Kata if
You are travelling with young kids, want a smaller beach town, or want to try surfing in green season.
Our honest take
If you are split, many guests do both: a few nights in Patong first, then Kata or Karon to wind down. Or the other way round, like the couple who travelled around Thailand and chose to come back here to finish their trip.
